Mr. Hanshe was a managing attorney and supervisor for litigation health care and professional
negligence in a major New York State law firm with offices in Long Island, New York City, Syracuse,
and Latham. Litigation and Appellate Attorney: 1986 to present, representing physicians, hospitals
and dentists in medical malpractice claims, lawsuits, trials, and appeals in all of the courts of New
York State and in all federal jurisdictions. Trials experience: 50+ trials to verdict in Supreme,
County, and District Courts. Administrative trial experience includes representing physicians and
dentists before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct of theDepartment of Health (NYS) and
Office of Professional Discipline of the Education Department (NYS). In addition, have represented
all members of the health care professions in matters related to business entities, their structure
and function.
Appellate Practice Experience
Personally prepared briefs and/or orally argued in excess of 35 appeals in the following courts:
United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, New York
State Court of Appeals, and the New York State Supreme Court - Appellate Division Second
Department, concerning matters of hospital negligence, criminal law, domestic relations law, civil
rights law, family law, adoption law, medical malpractice law, and general negligence law.
Designated Court Examiner by the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division Second
Department and Major Offense Murder Panel of the Assigned Counsel Defender Plan of Suffolk
County.
Criminal Practice Experience
Appointed to the Nassau County 18–b Major Felony Offense Panel in 1987. Tried many major
felony offenses to juries in Nassau County, Suffolk County, and Queens County. Represented in
excess of 1000 defendants in major felony matters before the courts of New York state.
Matrimonial Practice Experience
Practicing matrimonial law since 1985. Today approximately 25% of current case law is involved
with matrimonial law, including the marriage dissolutions of professionals with special valuation
issues concerning advanced degrees and practices. Member of the New York State Bar
Association Matrimonial Law Section, and the American Bar Association Family Law Section.
Certification
Certified by the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division Second Department and the
Capital Defender Screening Panel of the Second Department to be the sole Appellate Council in
capital death cases. Certified by the Office of Court Administration as a Court Evaluator and Court
Examiner.
